The Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) is renewing its calls for the public to hang up if called by a claim farmer. Claim Farming is the process by which a third party (the ‘claim farmer’) cold-calls an individual to pressure them into making a compensation claim and then sells this claim to a law firm. MAIC have commissioned two actuarial firms to complete scheme-wide data analysis to hone in on the existence of any claim farming networks and is working with the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) to stamp out this practice in Queensland.
If you are contacted by a claim farmer, do not provide or confirm any of your personal information, hang up and report the incident to MAIC by phone on 1300 302 568 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with the details.
