What will this Christmas be remembered for?

The holiday periods, especially Christmas and New Year, see increased traffic on the road as people take a break from their routine to spend time with family and friends. This increase in traffic combined with the stresses of the holiday period can impact our behaviours and increase the risk on the road.

What should be a time of relaxation and celebration is all too often overshadowed by tragedy and heartbreak on our roads. The new Join the Drive road safety campaign asks us to make this a holiday season to remember – for all the right reasons.

So these holidays, please take a breath and stay sensible on the road. Plan your festivities in advance – if you know you’re going to have a drink, plan for someone else to do the driving; as stressful as the festive season is, don’t drive aggressively, stick to the speed limit and drive to the conditions; turn your phone off – your time in the car is the perfect opportunity to ignore that barrage of incoming calls and texts; wear your seatbelt; and don’t drive tired – make other arrangements.
