MAIC 30th anniversary 1994 – 2024

MAIC 30 years logo

This month we have been reflecting and celebrating on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC). In the last 30 years, more than 225,000 claimants have come through the Queensland compulsory third party (CTP) insurance scheme, with the number of registered vehicle numbers growing from 1.9 million in 1994 to over 4.9 million 2024.

MAIC continues to work closely with key stakeholders including other Queensland Government agencies and the major universities in Queensland, to help fund research and education activities focused on prevention and rehabilitation initiatives relating to road trauma.

We are taking the opportunity this month to not only reflect and celebrate the incredible achievements of MAIC and our partners but also look to inspire the next generation of researchers. These collaborations represent a proactive approach to reducing the number of claims and costs within the scheme, which as a compulsory product is vital to ensuring its ongoing affordability.
