Car crash scams (sometimes also called claim farming) and Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance fraud involve costly investigations and prosecutions that increase CTP insurance premiums for everyone. It also redirects resources away from supporting people with genuine injuries.

Scammers often use high-pressure tactics to steal personal information and sell it to someone else for their own financial gain, while fraudulent claims increase administration, legal and regulatory costs.

The Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC), which regulates Queensland’s CTP insurance scheme, is committed to tackling these issues. MAIC does this through education and monitoring, as well as by investigating and prosecuting those who do the wrong thing. You can play your part by reporting CTP insurance scams and dishonest claims to MAIC.
