You can choose the CTP insurer for your vehicle. Compare insurers using the CTP premium calculator.
Motor vehicle owners may nominate to change CTP insurer at any time while the vehicle is currently registered, although the actual change of insurer will only come into effect from the commencement date of the next registration renewal.
Your current insurer is shown on your certificate of registration.
Please note: Once you have paid your registration renewal, the CTP insurer at the time of payment must remain your insurer until the end of the registration period covered by the renewal.
Step 1 - Choose your preferred insurer
When choosing your insurer, you may consider additional benefits or incentives offered by insurers. View our premium calculator to compare benefits and incentives and contact the insurer for information on their CTP insurance product.
Step 2 - Find out the new fee
You can calculate the new fee for changing CTP insurers by either:
- using the CTP premium calculator
- contacting your preferred CTP insurer.
Step 3 - Make your change
Changes can be made at any time of the year, but the process depends on whether you have received your renewal certificate. Select from the options below to find out how you can change insurer.
If you have received your registration renewal notice, you can change your insurer:
Online
You can renew your registration online at the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) website.
By phone
Phone the DTMR on 13 23 80 to register your change of insurer before the expiry date shown on the front of the renewal notice. Only the registered operator may change the insurer (identity details required).
In writing
Complete the CTP Nomination section on the reverse side of the renewal notice.
What’s next?
Pay your registration on or before the due date (please refer to the preferred payment options on the reverse side of the renewal notice).
Please note: A change of CTP insurer must be received by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) on or before the expiry date on the registration renewal notice to be effective for that renewal. If you pay your renewal prior to the due date, a further nomination change will not be effective until the commencement of the next renewal notice.
If you have yet to receive your registration renewal notice, you can nominate to change your insurer at any time during the currency of the registration period of a vehicle.
Although, the actual change of insurer will only come into effect from the commencement date of the next registration renewal.
