One of Queensland’s four CTP insurers, RACQ, will stop providing compulsory third party (CTP) insurance on 1 October 2023.
This was a commercial decision for RACQ.
As the scheme regulator, the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) is working with stakeholders to facilitate a smooth transition.
CTP insurance continues to deliver important protection for motorists and support for people injured in motor vehicle accidents.
Motorists who currently have CTP insurance with RACQ will remain insured until their policy ends, at which point the Department of Transport and Main Roads will reallocate the policy to another insurer. No action is required unless they wish to choose an alternate CTP insurer.
Motorists can select their CTP insurer anytime through a free online service and it will apply from their next registration renewal.
People who have a claim underway with RACQ will not experience disruptions to that claim. RACQ will still manage claims for the period that they were the CTP insurer.
