Congratulations to Dr Eleanor Kitcatt, Clinical Director at Retrieval Services Queensland for being awarded one of our Emergency Medicine Foundation (EMF) grants. Dr. Kitcatt’s project focuses on evaluating the efficacy of early administration of Fibrinogen Concentrate for bleeding trauma patients in both pre-hospital and retrieval settings.

The research will test this treatment’s potential in road trauma cases to reduce blood loss and secondary complications, while increasing survival rates.

Neil Singleton, MAIC Insurance Commissioner, was proud to be one of the presenters at the annual Emergency Medicine Foundation’s grants event.

“Since 2021, MAIC has been actively supporting a dedicated grants program at EMF to help bolster research capabilities among clinicians involved in emergency healthcare in regional, rural, and remote areas,” Mr. Singleton said.

“Whilst road trauma occurs less frequently in remote Queensland locations, when it does it often results in more serious injuries.

“By supporting regional initiative such as Dr Kitcatt’s on the early administration of Fibrinogen Concentrate for bleeding trauma patients, MAIC is dedicated to helping reduce the severity of road crash injuries in regional areas.” Mr Singleton said.

MAIC’s ongoing commitment to advancing regional emergency healthcare research has led to the provision of two scholarships for nurses to attend an Emergency Medicine Research course. These nurses, stationed at Mossman and Townsville University Hospitals, will gain valuable insights into research methodologies, paving the way for continued enhancements in Queensland’s regional emergency healthcare management.
