The Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) is renewing its calls for the public to hang up if called by a claim farmer. Claim Farming is the process by which a third party (the ‘claim farmer’) cold-calls an individual to pressure them into making a compensation claim and then sells this claim to a law firm. MAIC have commissioned two actuarial firms to complete scheme-wide data analysis to hone in on the existence of any claim farming networks and is working with the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) to stamp out this practice in Queensland.
If you are contacted by a claim farmer, do not provide or confirm any of your personal information, hang up and report the incident to MAIC by phone on 1800 CTP QLD (1800 287 753) or by emailing maic@maic.qld.gov.au with the details.
