Driving innovation for a better CTP scheme in 2025

As we roll into 2025, the Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) is committed to fostering innovation to improve claimant experience of Queensland’s CTP scheme.

Using what we learned from last year’s CTP medical certificate experiments, we’re aiming to co-design initiatives that reduce the time it takes from having an accident to lodging a claim. In 2024, it took 40 days on average to lodge a claim (down from 43 in 2023); we’re aiming to build initiatives to cut that down further. This will mean claimants can access insurer-funded rehabilitation quicker, which can only help their recovery. We’re planning to consult with key stakeholders in the first half of 2025 to discuss new experiments designed to validate proposed improvements.

We’re also teaming up with scheme partners to provide more information and support to claimants and motorists who want to understand and use the scheme better. We recently conducted a MAIC website user survey, the results of which will inform a website refresh.

After spending 2024 looking at how insurers are using artificial intelligence and other emerging technology, we’re excited to keep working with insurers and other regulators to drive efficiencies in claims management and CTP operations through safe and responsible use of technology. This year, we’re also looking to ramp up the digitisation of regulatory services. This will make processes more automated, cut down on administrative costs, and make transferring information safer.

At MAIC, we’re committed to co-design and test-and-learn methods of innovation. We are looking forward to working together with claimants, insurers, lawyers, health providers and other scheme stakeholders to design innovative solutions in 2025.

If you would like to participate in any MAIC-led experiments, please let us know by emailing maic@maic.qld.gov.au
