The Motor Accident Insurance Commission is pleased to share with you the latest edition of our Quarterly CTP scheme insights report, which showcases recent trends and developments in Queensland’s CTP insurance scheme.
This year, we are celebrating a significant milestone – the 30th anniversary of the Motor Accident Insurance Commission. Over the past three decades, we have seen remarkable growth and change. From managing claims for more than 225,000 Queenslanders, to witnessing the number of registered vehicles more than double from 1.9 million in 1994 to 5 million in 2024, it’s been a journey of immense progress.
In this edition, we are pleased to share some updates on our recent research initiatives. We are proud to announce that Griffith University will commence clinical trials for a world-first treatment for spinal cord injuries in 2025, a project MAIC is honoured to fund. We are also thrilled to announce the extension of the QUT Data Linkage Fellowship, held by Dr Angela Watson, which has been instrumental in building a comprehensive data linkage to understand the true picture of road trauma.
As part of our commitment to improving road safety education, we celebrated the successful completion of the ‘First on Scene’ pilot program, in collaboration with the Queensland Trucking Association and Griffith University, which has provided invaluable first aid and crash scene management training to heavy vehicle drivers across the state.
This quarter also saw us continue our focus on innovation. We have been hard at work undertaking experiments to improve the CTP claimant experience, trialling three new medical certificate process enhancements. We were also honoured and impressed to announce the winners of the MAIC-funded 2024 Queensland Student Bionics Innovation Challenge. It has also been a busy quarter with MAIC sponsoring and presenting at numerous road safety and rehabilitation conferences across Australia.
